It can be tricky to stay healthy over the holidays due to the all the festive food and social events. So we’ve put together a few tips together to help you enjoy the festive season, whilst still being conscious of your health and wellbeing.
Drink More Water
You should always keep yourself hydrated but especially over the holidays when you might be consuming a little too much of other liquids. To keep the hangovers and dehydration at bay make sure you’ve always got your trusty water bottle by your side.
Allow Yourself to Indulge
If you can’t treat yourself during the festive season, then when can you? A mince pie or a slice of chocolate log won’t completely derail your fitness plan. Everyone indulges a little more than usual during the festive season so there’s absolutely no need to feel guilty about it.
Make Healthy Alternatives
Making healthy swaps allows you to enjoy your festive favourites with everyone so you don’t have to miss out on any festive fun. Pick up some low-fat cream for your mince pies, some plant-based milk for your hot chocolates and some low-calorie alcohol for party time.
Find Other Ways to Work Out
If you’re too busy to get to the gym you can still find ways to work out over the holidays. Go out for a nice long walk, possibly somewhere with a bit of an incline or dust off your old Nintendo Wii and host a Wii Sports tournament.
Now this is definitely the most important tip. Use the holidays to rest, relax and spend time with your friends and family. Don’t waste the festive season thinking about what you’re eating and planning your next workout, there’s plenty of time for that in January.
